The Entone Hydra Set Top Box provides High Definition (HD) television reception and recording capability for one main TV, and Standard Definition (SD) reception without recording for two additional remote TVs. No additional Set Top Box is necessary for the remote TVs. Each TV is operated with its own remote control, numbered one through three on the back (see photo).
The Hydra Set Top Box is connected to the fiber optic ONT box with an ethernet cable plugged into the port in the back of the box. Connection from the box to the TV can be accomplished several ways:
- A coax cable can be run from the TV OUT connection on the box to the main TV. This will provide SD reception to the main TV.
- An HDMI cable can be run from the box to the main TV if so equipped; this will provide HD reception to the main TV.
- Five RCA cables can be run from the ports shown in the diagram to their equivalent locations on the main TV; picture quality will be HD for the main TV.
- For standard SD reception on a SD TV, three RCA cables can be connected as shown in the diagram.
- Up to two additional TVs can be connected with coax cable via a splitter from the MATV OUT connection on the box. Both additional TVs will receive a SD signal.
The RCA cables are color-coded so that the connections from the Hydra Set Top Box to the main TV will match.
The Entone Hydra Set Top Box is operated with one of three Entone URCplus remote controls, pictured above. All three remotes which are supplied with the Hydra have black backs with the numerals "1", "2", or "3" embossed into the battery cover. These are infra-red/wireless operated remotes; one will operate one HD television (the one to which the Hydra Set Top Box is wired) and the other two will control two SD televisions remotely. The Hydra on the main HD television also has a recording capability. Detailed directions for use are found in the user guide which is included with each remote control. The link below to the Hydra Quick Reference Guide also has detailed programming information.
The first step is to select which remote will control which television and/or other devices. Each remote is programmed individually for its intended devices and operates independently of the others. STB enables Set Top Box mode functions, TV selects a SD television, and AUX could be a VCR, Tuner, or DVD player. Once a device is selected, the remote must be programmed with a four digit program code for that particular brand of device. A list of devices and their codes is included in the user guide for the remote. Once the code for the device selected is entered, the remote buttons operate in a manner common to all such devices.
Using Your Triple Stream Remote
This insert should give you a basic understanding of how to operate your triple stream box as well as remotes. It will cover what channel your TV should be set on to receive video, and how to operate your remotes.
What Channel Should my TV Sets be on in order to Receive Video
Your TVs should be turned on AT ALL TIMES:
TV One (1) Main Channel 10 |
TV Two (2) Channel 23 |
TV Three (3) Channel 39 |
When Turning Your TV ON
Step 1. Press the STB (Set Top Box / Cable Box) button first (this button is located below the setup button on the left hand side of your remote) and then press the power button. This will turn on your TV as well as your STB feed for the TV you are watching.
- What if my TV does not come on? If your TV does not come on try pressing the TV button located in the center of the remote below the orange input button, and then press power; this should turn your TV on. (Please understand that this action will turn your television on, but it will not change the channels in the STB; to do this you must proceed to Step 2.)
- What if my TV comes on but there is no video? Turn the TV off, press the STB button, and press Power.
Step 2. When changing the channels in the STB after turning your TV on, press the STB button. This will allow you to change channels within the STB or Cable box and not the channels in your TV. (This button is located below the setup button on your remote.)
When Turning Your TV And Video Feed OFF
Step 1. Press the power button. This should turn the video feed and TV off at the same time.
How To Tell If Your STB Is Or Is Not In Standby Mode
Entone Amulets:Look at the left hand side of your STB for the word STBY (Standby). There should be a green or orange light under it.
- If you see a Green Light the power is on.
- If you see an Orange Light the power is off.
If the STB is off follow the steps from the "What To Do If The STB Is Off" section, to turn the power back on.
Scientific Atlanta:If you CAN see lights the box is on; if you DO NOT see lights the box is off.
If the STB is off follow the steps from the "What To Do If The STB Is Off" section, to turn the power back on.
