The Scientific Atlanta IPN330HD and IPN430MC Set Top Boxes are both capable of providing display of High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD) television reception depending on the capability of the television. The primary difference between the two is that the IPN430MC is capable of recording programming while the IPN330HD is not. The IPN430MC is larger in size as a consequence. The cable connections for the two units are identical.
The Set Top Box is connected to the fiber optic ONT box with an ethernet cable plugged into the port in the back of the box. Connection from the box to the TV can be accomplished several ways:
- A coax cable can be run from the box to the TV. This will provide SD reception.
- An HDMI cable can be run from the box to the TV if so equipped. This will provide HD reception.
- Five RCA cables can be run from the ports shown in the diagram to their equivalent locations on the TV for HD reception.
- For SD reception on a SD TV, three RCA cables are connected as shown in the diagram.
The RCA cables are color-coded so that the connections from the Set Top Box to the TV will match. The five cable connection scheme can be used on a SD TV, but the picture quality will remain at SD levels.
The Scientific Atlanta IPN330HD and IPN430MC Set Top Boxes are both operated with the same remote control, the AT6400 pictured above. Detailed directions for use are found in the user guide which is included with each remote control.
The first step is to select which component is to be used. TV selects a HD or SD television, DVD selects a DVD player, STB enables Set Top Box mode functions, and AUX could be a VCR, Tuner, or Home Theater system. Once a function is selected, the remote must be programmed with a four digit program code for that particular brand of device. A list of devices and their codes is included in the user guide for the remote. Once the code for the device selected is entered, the remote functions operate in a manner common to all such devices.
Using Your Remote
When using your remote, whether it be a Scientific Atlanta or Entone Amulet Remote the procedure for operation is the same.
If a SKSRT installer, or contracted installer programs your new remote to operate both your new STB (Set Top Box) and TV at the same time, the Procedure is as follows:
When Turning Your TV On
Step 1. Press the TV button first, and then press the power button. This will turn your TV on (Please understand that this action will turn your Television on, but will not change the channels in the STB (Set Top Box/Cable Box); to do this you must procede to Step 2.)
Step 2. To change the channels in the STB after turning on your TV, press the STB button. This will allow you to change channels within the STB and not the channels in your TV. (This button is located below the setup button on the Entone remote, and the first button on the top left on the Cisco remote.)
When Turning Your TV Off
Step 1. Press the TV button first, and then press the power button.
What To Do If The STB (Set Top Box) Is Off
If your STB is in standby mode, it will need to be turned on in order to change channels in your STB.
Step 1. First press the STB button, and then press the power button. This will turn your STB on.
Step 2. To turn off your STB first press the STB button, and then press the power button.
How To Tell If Your STB Is Or Is Not In Standby Mode
Entone Amulets: Look at the left hand side of your STB for the word STBY (Standby). There should be a green or orange light under it.
- If you see a Green Light the power is on.
- If you see an Orange Light the power is off.
If the STB is off follow the steps from the "What To Do If The STB Is Off" section, to turn the power back on.
Scientific Atlanta: If you CAN see lights the box is on; if you DO NOT see lights the box is off.
If the STB is off follow the steps from the "What To Do If The STB Is Off" section, to turn the power back on.
